How to Paint the Edges of Your Photos
with Michelle Lindenmayer

There are many different and simple ways that we can change the mood of our pages. This can be done by altering our patterned paper or cardstock and even by altering our photos. A great way to alter a photo is by painting around the edges, which can give a ‘shabby’ effect and also soften the edges of your photo. If you are ever worried about altering a photo it is a good idea to use a duplicate.

What You Need:
• Photo
• Acrylic paint
• Foam brush
• Paint tray
• Scrap paper
Step 1
Firstly, choose a paint colour that matches your page. As the paint is going to be used directly on your photo, it is important to use acrylic paint or another acid-free paint to avoid ruining your photo.
Step 2
Squirt some paint onto your tray. Then take your foam brush and dab the tip gently in the paint. Be careful not to overload your brush.
Step 3
Then hold the photo in one hand and your foam brush in the other. Using light strokes, run the foam brush along the edge of your photo. You can control the amount of paint that goes onto the edge of your photo by the angle at which you hold your foam brush. If you hold it slightly under the photo, you will get a smaller amount. If you hold it above the photo, the paint will be thicker.
Step 4
Continue painting around all the sides of the photo.
Step 5
When you have finished painting, you will need to put your photo on a piece of scrap paper to dry for around five minutes before adhering it to your page.
