The creative art of displaying photos and memorabilia, and using journaling and embellishments, primarily to preserve memories for future generations. It is also a hobby to express your creativity as you display your memories in a scrapbook.

Scraping
Paper scraping is where you use a blade to scrape the edge of a page. Creates a textured, aged look.

Scrap-lift
To use ideas you have seen others use. It can be one element of a page, or an entire layout. Perfectly safe for personal use, but can become an infringement of copyright when done in commercial circumstances.

Secondary colors
Colors created by mixing primary colors. For example, orange, green and purple are secondary colors created by mixing primary colors of red, yellow and blue.

Self healing mat
A cutting mat that you can used to protect the surface of your table when making cuts, which ‘heals’ and retains its form when a cut is made into the mats surface.

Shabby Chic
A style of scrapbooking in which techniques such as sanding, crumpling, painting and inking created an aged or worn look, while still retaining elegance and style.

Shadow-box
A shadow box is designed to hold and secure 3 dimensional objects for storage and display.

|
|
|
|
Shaker box
An accent where shapes or small items such as loose beads, confetti or tiny embellishments are sealed in a transparent material so that they can freely move around.

|
Silent Setter
An eyelet setting tool that does not make a loud noise when used to set eyelets as with conventional eyelet setters.
|

|
|

|
Slide Mounts
An embellishment in the shape of an old-fashioned photo slide. The slide is basically a frame and you can mount paper or a photo inside.

|
|
|
|
Snaps
A snap is similar to an eyelet, but without a hole through the middle. They are fastened the same was as an eyelet, but have a solid top.

|
|
|
|
Sprial bound albums or books
Books or albums that are fastened at the spine with a metal or plastic binding in a spiral shape. Allows the pages of the album to open out and sit flat.

|
Sponging
Creating a textured look with stamping ink or paint by applying it with a sea, cosmetic or kitchen sponge.
|
|
|
|

Stamping
The creative art of using stamps (available in a variety shapes, sizes and designs) with inks or paints to create patterns, words or designs on pages.

Stamp Pads
Ink pads that you push your rubber stamp onto in order to apply ink to it.

Stencils
Usually made from sturdy plastic, they have and has shapes, letters, words or designs cut into it that you may trace or use to paint onto your paper.

Stickers
Adhesive-backed images used to decorate scrapbook pages and projects.
|
|
|

|
|
|
Stylus
A tool in the shape of a stick, but with blunt rounded ends, used to shape or deboss paper.
